Stefan Dimov

Professor Stefan Dimov is a Professor of Micro Manufacturing and Head of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centre at the University of Birmingham's Department of Mechanical Engineering within the School of Engineering. His research focuses on advanced manufacturing technologies, including Laser Micro Processing, Micro/Nano Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, and Hybrid Manufacturing. He leads internationally recognized labs in these areas and has secured over £35M in research grants. Professor Dimov has supervised over 20 PhD students and authored 300+ papers and 13 books.

He holds qualifications including Dipl Ing, PhD, DSc, CEng, and is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE). His work emphasizes knowledge transfer to industry, aiding multinational companies and SMEs in economic growth and job creation. Awards include the Thomas Stephens Group Prize (2000, 2003) and the Joseph Whitworth Award (2017).

His contributions span academic research, industrial collaboration, and leadership in advanced manufacturing innovation, with a focus on translating research into practical applications for industry.
