About
Stathis Psillos is a Professor of Philosophy of Science and Metaphysics at the Department of Philosophy & History of Science, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a PhD from King’s College London (1994) and has held research fellowships at the London School of Economics. He is a founding member and first President of the European Philosophy of Science Association (EPSA), editor of Metascience, and member of l’Academie Internationale de Philosophie des Sciences (AIPS).
His work focuses on scientific realism, causation, explanation, and the history of philosophy of science. Key contributions include articulating a neo-Humean empiricist framework for scientific realism, reinterpreting structural realism, and analyzing historical cases like Perrin’s molecular experiments. He has authored 8 books and over 100 papers, including award-winning works on causation and explanation.
Psillos’ research integrates epistemological optimism with metaphysical austerity, challenging neo-Aristotelian approaches. His edited volumes, such as The Routledge Companion to the Philosophy of Science (with Martin Curd), are seminal resources in the field.
