About
Professor Stanley Vesley served as the director of the Coe College Band from 1926 until at least 1960. Under his leadership, the band gained national prominence, marching in seven presidential inaugural parades from Herbert Hoover (1929) to John F. Kennedy (1960). The ensemble also achieved first place among inaugural participants in 1933 and represented Iowa at the 1933 Century of Progress exhibition in Chicago. In 1937, the band's performance was broadcast nationally via both radio networks from Washington, D.C.
Annually, Vesley organized a Midwest Spring Tour culminating in a Palm Sunday concert at Chicago's Orchestra Hall. His military band, linked to the ROTC program, became a hallmark of Coe College's musical legacy.
