Dr. Stanislav Vitha serves as a Research Scientist at the Microscopy and Imaging Center of Texas A&M University, a position he has held since August 2004. He manages advanced microscopy instrumentation critical to campus research operations.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology (1995), University of South Bohemia, Czech Republic
- Graduate research at Institute of Plant Molecular Biology (Czech Academy of Sciences), DeMontfort University (Leicester, England), and University of Bonn (Germany)
- Postdoctoral research with Dr. Fred Sack at Ohio State University and Dr. Katherine Osteryoung at University of Nevada, Reno and Michigan State University
Research Focus: Dr. Vitha specializes in chloroplast division mechanisms and advanced optical imaging methodologies. His technical expertise spans image restoration through deconvolution algorithms and quantitative image analysis for cellular structure characterization, bridging plant molecular biology with cutting-edge microscopy.
Instrumentation Leadership: He oversees the center's comprehensive equipment suite including Zeiss Axiophot, Olympus FV1000 Confocal, Leica SP8 Confocal/FLIM/STED, Leica DM6B Upright Microscope, Tescan Vega SEM, and specialized sample preparation systems like Leica EM AFS2 High Pressure Freezer and Pelco Biowave Processor.
