Max Planck Institute for Polymer ResearchAbout
Dr. Stanislav Balouchev is a Research Fellow and group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P), where he heads the Photophysical Chemistry Group since 2008. He also holds a FCFP Senior Fellowship at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) within Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, focused on Quantum Transport. Additionally, he maintains an affiliation as assistant professor at Technical University Sofia since 1995 and completed habilitation at Sofia University's Optics and Spectroscopy Department in 2009.
His research focuses on energy transport in optically created organic triplet ensembles, particularly triplet-triplet annihilation photon energy upconversion (TTA-UC) for solar engineering applications. Recent innovations include developing nano-encapsulated TTA-UC materials for non-invasive temperature and oxygen sensing in biological systems, and pioneering metal-free approaches for efficient photon energy conversion.
Recent publications (2021-2022) demonstrate strong focus on sustainable energy technologies, particularly photon management strategies for solar applications. Research themes include material design for upconversion efficiency, stability enhancement for long-term operation, and biomedical sensing applications using nanoscale optical materials.
