Stan Geertman

Stan Geertman is a Full Professor of Planning Support Science at Utrecht University's Faculty of Geosciences, specializing in Spatial Planning. He holds the Chair of Planning Support Science and has been affiliated with the university since at least 2016, as evidenced by his inaugural lecture date of March 11, 2016. His work focuses on Planning Support Systems (PSS), Smart City governance, and socio-spatial analysis in urban contexts, particularly in China and Western nations.

Geertman has been actively involved in international initiatives, including serving as Chair of the Board of Directors of CUPUM (Computational Urban Planning and Urban Management) for over a decade. He contributes to editorial boards of journals like Computers, Environment and Urban Systems (CEUS) and has organized conferences under EGIS, JECC, and AGILE. His research bridges theory and practice, emphasizing decision support systems, urban informatics, and sustainable urbanization.
