Stacy Kinlock Sewell

Dr. Stacy Kinlock Sewell is a Professor of History and Assistant Dean of the School of Arts & Social Sciences at St. Thomas Aquinas College. Her research focuses on 20th-century urban history, exploring how societies construct and reconstruct living environments through physical/social connections, disinvestment, and redevelopment. She emphasizes the enduring relevance of geography in addressing modern issues like housing affordability.

Education: PhD in African-American History & Politics from Rutgers University; BA in History from Eugene Lang College (New School for Social Research).

Research interests include queer/transgender histories, disability histories, and immigrant narratives. She has published in New York History, The Historian, and Journal of African American History, winning the 2002 Paul S. Kerr History Prize.

Teaching methods emphasize visual/textual evidence (e.g., photo analysis) and global engagement via Nicaragua study trips. She co-founded a NY consortium improving prison education and advocating for reform.
