Stacy D. Fahrenthold

Stacy D. Fahrenthold is a Professor of History and Middle East/South Asia Studies at the University of California, Davis. She holds a Ph.D. in History from Northeastern University (2014), an M.A. from Northeastern (2009), and a B.A. from Georgia State University (2007). Her research focuses on modern Middle Eastern migration, displacement, and diaspora, particularly Syrian, Lebanese, and Palestinian communities in the Atlantic world. She serves as Associate Editor of Mashriq & Mahjar and leads the Middle East in Historical Context public scholarship initiative with the California History-Social Science Project.

Her award-winning books include Unmentionables: Textiles, Garment Work, and the Syrian American Working Class (2024) and Between the Ottomans and the Entente (2019), which received multiple prizes including the Evelyn Shakir Award and Khayrallah Prize. Fahrenthold’s grants include a 2024-27 Dean’s Faculty Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship (2021-22). She advises graduate students in migration studies, Arab American history, and labor history.
