University of KlagenfurtAbout
Stacey Alex is an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Latinx Studies at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. She holds a B.A. and M.A. from The University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies from The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on undocumented Latinx immigrant narratives, Latinx folklore, and Latinx pop culture, emphasizing critical pedagogy and social justice frameworks to confront systemic inequities.
Dr. Alex’s work challenges post-racial multiculturalism and advocates for curricula that center undocumented voices and agency. Her research draws from testimonial literature, comics, memoirs, and music to highlight marginalized narratives. She has taught across diverse settings—including rural Iowa, urban Venezuela, and university-level Spanish programs—prioritizing student engagement with systemic injustices rather than celebratory exceptionalism.
Her scholarship interrogates the heterogeneity of Latinx identities and resists homogenizing political narratives. Influenced by scholars like Cristina Beltrán and Alyshia Gálvez, she emphasizes epistemological diversity in education, urging students to critically evaluate whose knowledge is privileged and marginalized.
