Sravanya Gavini, M.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in gastroenterology and GI motility. She serves as Interim Director of GI Motility and is a member of the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases. Her clinical and research interests focus on gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), extraintestinal GERD manifestations in lung transplant patients, eosinophilic esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus, and esophageal motility disorders such as achalasia. She collaborates with lung transplant evaluation teams and surgeons specializing in antireflux surgery.
Dr. Gavini holds a B.S. in Chemistry with minors in Spanish and Biology from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, an M.D. from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and an M.P.H. She completed internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins and gastroenterology fellowship with GI motility training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. During her fellowship, she researched esophageal reflux in lung transplant patients.
Her professional affiliations include the American Gastroenterological Association, American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society, and American College of Gastroenterology, where she serves on the Patient Care Committee. She has been recognized with the Young Investigator Forum Award and actively participates in the Fellowship Research Committee.
