Spyridon G. Ploumidis is an Associate Professor in Modern and Contemporary Greek History (1830-2000) at the Department of History and Archaeology, School of Philosophy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) since 2009. He holds a PhD from the University of London (2004), and has taught at the Universities of Western Macedonia, Ioannina, and Ionian University. Since 2019, he has held the rank of Associate Professor and concurrently serves as Professor-Advisor at the Hellenic Open University in the 'Greek History' thematic unit.

Recent work explores corporatist theories in interwar Greece, the evolution of the 'Great Idea', and British propaganda during WWII. His interdisciplinary approach bridges political, social, and cultural history to analyze issues like monarchy as an 'antidote to anarchy' and the role of peasant movements in shaping national identity.
Ploumidis has published extensively in international journals, including European History Quarterly and Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, with contributions on topics ranging from interwar Greek authoritarianism to the socio-political dynamics of Thessaloniki.
