Souradeep Roy is a Teaching Associate in Drama at Queen Mary University of London's School of English and Drama. His academic work focuses on theatre historiography, political economy, social reproduction, translation, and material modernisms. He is currently completing a PhD on the Bengali group theatre movement and Indian Peoples’ Theatre Association (IPTA) in Kolkata (1940s-1970s), supervised by Dr. Nicholas Ridout. Previous research includes studies on Bengali actress Keya Chakraborty (Jawaharlal Nehru University) and poet Adil Jussawalla (University of Delhi).
His creative practice spans poetry, translation, and experimental theatre. His upcoming play How to Make Rice will feature in the 2022 A Season of Bangla Drama festival. He has taught Power Plays, a first-year practical module, incorporating methodologies from Bengali theatre director Ramaprasad Banik.
Publications include academic works in South Asian Review and Sanglap, creative writing, and journalism critiquing literary trends. He serves as Associate Editor at Almost Island literary journal and has collaborated with institutions like the Tricontinental Institute of Social Research and Ashoka University.
