Soroush Abolfathi is an Associate Professor in Water and Environmental Engineering at the University of Warwick's School of Engineering. He is also a member of the Warwick Centre for Predictive Modelling and Co-Lead of the Global Research Priorities in Sustainable Cities. His research focuses on pollution transport (including microplastics), resilient infrastructure design, and climate change adaptation. He holds a BEng (2008), MSc (2011), and PhD (2016) from the University of Warwick, funded by the Victoria Fernandes Fellowship.
Research interests include microplastic dynamics in aquatic systems, constructed wetlands for environmental remediation, and machine learning applications in hydraulic modelling. He leads major projects like the £1.6m FCDO-funded 'GIVO-Warwick' initiative for plastic waste valorization and NERC-funded studies on pollution transport in wetlands. He is Chair of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Coventry & Warwickshire branch and serves on the UK Leadership Team for IAHR.
Teaching includes modules on water engineering design, climate change impacts, and coastal resilience. Active in interdisciplinary collaborations, he co-leads the Blu Hope Campaign to protect Southeast Asia's Coral Triangle ecosystems and is involved in the 'DITCH-Plastic' EPSRC project for circular economy innovations.
