Sony Mathew

Sony Mathew is a Senior Lecturer in Management at the University of Sunderland’s Sunderland Business School. He joined higher education in 2017 and focuses on firm innovation, productivity, and sustainability practices in peripheral regions. His research explores the interplay between innovation, exports, and sustainability, supporting SMEs through consultancy services. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching responsibilities include modules such as Innovation, Entrepreneurship And Technology Transfer and Digital Enterprise And Innovation, alongside overseeing MSc International Business Management and MBA programs. His current projects include software development to assess firm core competencies and collaboration with the Innovation Observatory to monitor innovation activities in North East England.
