About
Dr. Sonja Kersten is a Scientific Associate in Livestock Population Genomics at the University of Hohenheim's Institute of Animal Sciences within the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. Her research focuses on structural variations in genomes of honeybees, bumblebees, and plants, particularly investigating adaptive traits and herbicide resistance mechanisms.
Education:
- PhD (Dr. Sc. Agr.) in Crop Biodiversity and Breeding Informatics (2019-2022), University of Hohenheim
- Master of Science in Crop Science (2011-2013), University of Hohenheim
- Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences (2008-2011), University of Hohenheim
Research Interests: Population genomics, structural variation analysis, herbicide resistance in blackgrass, and long-read sequencing applications in non-model organisms. She also explores microbial interactions in plant phyllospheres and biodiversity informatics.
