About
Sonia DARTHOU is a permanent teacher-researcher at ANHIMA (Anthropologie et Histoire des Mondes Antiques), where she serves on the Scientific Council, Laboratory Council, and editorial board of Mètis. She is also affiliated with LabEx DynamiTe (Territorial and Spatial Dynamics). Her doctorate from École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) focused on Poseidon's role in Athenian territory, and her habilitation thesis examines political symbolism in Attic ceramics.
Her research explores three interconnected themes:
- Myth and politics, including polytheistic foundations and Athenian identity constructs
- Religion-territory relationships through the ANR CIRCE program
- Anthropology of ancient images and visual culture
Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on Athenian political symbolism and mythological discourse, with recent work analyzing artifacts like gymnasium records and olive tree iconography as expressions of civic ideology. She actively disseminates research through exhibitions (e.g., Olympic Games at Université d'Evry), radio programs, and contributions to historical journals like Kernos and Mètis.
