Song Zhang

Prof. Song Zhang is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University's West Lafayette campus, affiliated with the College of Engineering and School of Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on multiscale 3D optical sensing, biophotonic imaging, and applications in virtual reality, human-computer interaction, and additive manufacturing. He leads the XYZT Lab and holds a B.S. from USTC (2000), M.S. and Ph.D. from Stony Brook University (2003/2005).

Research areas include optical metrology innovations like structured light systems, high-speed profilometry, and error-correction algorithms. He has pioneered techniques for medical imaging (e.g., cardiac surface mechanics), forensic 3D evidence capture, and automotive industry applications.
