Sohomjit Ray is an Associate Professor of English at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York (CUNY). He specializes in South Asian, African, and World literatures, alongside Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. He is a current Board member of The Center for LGBTQ Studies (CLAGS) at CUNY's Graduate Center.
Dr. Ray holds a Ph.D. in English from Kent State University and an M.A. in English from the University of Calcutta.
His research focuses on translation studies, feminist and queer theory, and South Asian literary and cultural studies. He has published widely in journals like Gender, Place & Culture, Journal of Narrative Theory, and Modern Fiction Studies, exploring themes such as mobility narratives, trauma, and postcolonial identity. His work critiques neoliberalism’s impact on gender and sexuality, particularly in South Asian contexts.
He has authored translations of Indian folktales and contributed reviews to WSQ: Women's Studies Quarterly and Wasafiri. His courses span global literature, queer studies, and critical theory.
