Skip Horack is an Associate Professor and Director of Creative Writing at the Department of English, Florida State University (FSU), within the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds an MFA from the University of New Orleans and a JD from FSU. His expertise focuses on fiction and creative non-fiction, with notable publications including the novel The Other Joseph (2015), The Eden Hunter (2010), and the short story collection The Southern Cross (2009).
Horack’s work has appeared in prestigious outlets like Oxford American, The Saturday Evening Post, and Narrative Magazine. He has received numerous accolades, including the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference Bakeless Fiction Prize (2008) and a Wallace Stegner Fellowship (2006–2008) at Stanford University, where he also served as a Jones Lecturer (2009–2012).
His research and creative output emphasize narrative innovation, Southern literature, and the intersection of legal studies and creative writing. Horack actively mentors students in FSU’s Creative Writing program, fostering emerging voices in fiction and non-fiction.
