Sjur Sandvik Strøm is a PhD candidate and Research Fellow at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas within the Faculty of Humanities. His research focuses on Kant's political philosophy, particularly citizenship concepts and their critique by successors like Friedrich Schlegel, framed through deliberative democracy models. He holds an MA (2023) and BA (2019) in Philosophy from the University of Oslo.
Teaching Experience:
- Seminar leader for courses FIL1005 and FIL1003 at UiO
- Instructor for Ex.phil. (EX101), Ex.fac. (EX102), and modernity's intellectual history at the Academy of Culture (via NLA)
Research Interests: Political philosophy (Kantian, Hegelian), German idealism, Frankfurt School critical theory, deliberative democracy mechanisms. His work bridges historical philosophy with contemporary democratic theory.
Publications: Book reviews in Agora, critical analyses in Filosofisk Supplement, and interviews with prominent philosophers like Arne Johan Vetlesen. Focus areas include Hegel-Rousseau debates, Kant's citizenship distinction, and evil's philosophical origins in Hegel.
