Sjur Atle Furali is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Theology, Department of Theology. He holds a Cand.theol. from the Norwegian School of Mission (2011) and an MD in Christianity from the University of Oslo (2011). Ordained as a Lutheran-Evangelical minister in 2011, he served in the Church of Norway until 2019. Currently, he is Program Director for theology bachelor's and master's programs and oversees student internships. His research focuses on early modern Danish legal history, theological authority, and Nordic Protestantism.
Academic interests include church history, Protestantism, natural law, criminal law history, and hymnology. His PhD thesis examined theological justifications for authority in Denmark-Norway's early autocracy. He teaches hymnology and church history, emphasizing interdisciplinary connections between law, theology, and political thought.
