About
Dr. Siyang Wang is an Imperial College Research Fellow in the Department of Materials, Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London. He specializes in understanding in-service failure mechanisms of structural and functional materials for energy applications using in situ and operando characterization techniques within scanning electron microscopes. His research spans nuclear power, magnetic cooling, Li-ion batteries, and net-zero aviation materials.
Wang's research investigates scientific origins of mechanical failure through nanoscale observation and quantitative characterization of failure processes. He aims to improve material safety and performance in critical energy systems by extracting fundamental material properties and understanding underlying failure mechanisms.
He teaches the postgraduate course 'Electron Microscopy Lecture Series' and has received the Imperial College Research Fellowship (2024-2028) and Acta Materialia Outstanding Reviewer Award (2023).
