Dr. Simya Olavil Karayi is a Research Associate at Loughborough University (since June 2024). She holds a Ph.D. in Nanoscience & Technology from Anna University, India (2021), an M.Tech. in Nanoscience and Technology from K.S. Rangasamy College of Technology (2013), and a B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Cochin University of Science and Technology (2009). Her research focuses on photovoltaic materials, semiconductor thin films, micro-nano fabrication, and nanotechnology applications.
She has held roles including Principal Investigator (2017–2020) for the DST-funded project on 'Nano-structured CZTSSe thin film solar cells' at PSG Institute of Advanced Studies, where she led the Nanotech Innovation Incubation Center (NRIIC) with a budget of INR 26.5 lakh. She also served as a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Verona, Italy (2022–2024).
Her research interests integrate materials science, semiconductor physics, and renewable energy technologies. She has extensive experience in thin film fabrication, nanomaterial characterization, and solar cell development.
