Simos Zenios is the Peter V. Tsantes Endowed Assistant Professor in Hellenic Studies at Stony Brook University (since 2024). Previously, he worked as a lecturer at UCLA and as Associate Director of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for Hellenic Studies. He holds a BA in Greek Philology (University of Athens, 2004), MA in Comparative Literature (University of Edinburgh, 2007), and PhD in Comparative Literature (Harvard University, 2018).
His research focuses on intersections of literature with European Enlightenment and Romanticism, literary theory, classical receptions, and intellectual history. Notable topics include the Greek Revolution, philhellenism, and early modern Cypriot poetry.
Teaching: He teaches Modern Greek language courses (GRK 211, GRK 321/322) and special topics in European studies (EUR 390). His pedagogical focus includes innovative classroom practices, supported by the Mellon Fellowship.
Awards & Grants: Recipient of the Cotsen Traveling Fellowship (Gennadius Library, 2018-19), M. Alison Frantz Fellowship (2015-16), and multiple research grants. His work emphasizes transnational cultural dialogues and the legacy of classical thought in modern contexts.
Public Engagement: Co-curator of the Gennadius Library exhibition on Dionysios Solomos (2023) and dramaturge for Prometheus (2016). His scholarship bridges academic rigor with public cultural initiatives.
