About
Dr. Simonetta Frittelli is an Associate Professor of Physics and Chair of the Physics Department at Duquesne University since 2003. She holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh (advisor: Ezra Ted Newman) and a Licenciada en Física from Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina. Her research focuses on astrophysical applications of strongly gravitating systems, emphasizing mathematical properties of the Einstein equations and gravitational lensing phenomena.
Education:
- PhD in Physics, University of Pittsburgh
- MS in Physics, University of Pittsburgh
- Licenciada en Física, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba
Research interests include general relativity, numerical relativity, gravitational waves, and the interplay between extreme gravity and astrophysical observations. Her work has been supported by the National Science Foundation. Representative areas of study involve the Bondi-Sachs formalism, characteristic approaches to relativity, and error analysis in gravitational lensing models.
Her teaching spans undergraduate and graduate physics courses including Optics, Mechanics, and Cosmology. She has delivered public lectures at institutions like the Carnegie Museums and Café Scientifique Pittsburgh.
