Simone Maria Gugliotta is a Lecturer in Italian Studies and Spanish & Portuguese at Smith College. She co-directs the Translation Concentration and teaches beginner to intermediate Italian and Portuguese courses, alongside classes on Romance language pedagogy. Her research focuses on multiculturalism, bilingualism, heritage language preservation, and critical pedagogy influenced by Paulo Freire and Don Lorenzo Milani. She is organizing a community project with Lusophone members and students of Portuguese, emphasizing applied linguistic practices. Current projects include co-writing a chapter on language and critical pedagogy and conducting heritage language case studies.
