Simone Deparis

Simone Deparis is a Professor and senior scientist in the Mathematics Section at EPFL's School of Basic Sciences (SB). He specializes in numerical analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and mathematics education. Deparis holds a PhD from EPFL and a mathematics degree from ETH Zurich. He pioneered a flipped classroom approach in first-year linear algebra courses, earning the 2018 Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching. His research focuses on fluid-structure interaction, hemodynamics, and reduced basis methods, with applications in cardiovascular systems and biomedical engineering. Collaborations include EPFL’s Teaching Support Center (CAPE) and development of MOOCs on programming languages like MATLAB/Octave.
