Vilmos Simon is an Associate Professor at the Department of Networked Systems and Services at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). He serves as Head of the Multimedia Networks and Services Laboratory and Deputy Head of the Department. His research focuses on mobility management, energy efficiency in mobile systems, self-organized networks, machine learning for smart cities, and IoT. He leads the AI-based Intelligent Transportation System VKE project and participated in the AWARD EIT Digital project as team leader.
Education: M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (2003), Ph.D. in Telecommunications (2009), both from BME.
Research interests include communication technologies for autonomous vehicles, data analytics, and optimization in self-organized networks. He has published 50+ papers and reviews for multiple conferences. Teaching roles include courses on communication networks and autonomous vehicle technologies across BSc, MSc, and EIT Digital programs.
Leadership roles include President of the Telecommunications Section (2010–2015) and current Corporate Liaison Vice President of the Zala Autonomous Vehicle Cluster. Initiatives include founding the PARIPA Industrial Partnership Program, INNOVersitas student startup competition, and co-founding BME Venture Mentoring Service modeled after MIT.
