Simon Vagts

Dr. Simon Vagts is a Research Associate (postdoc) in Art Sciences at the University of Fine Arts Münster since 2022. He holds a PhD from the University of Basel (2021), focusing on Jean-Luc Godard's cinematic image theory, and a Master's from the University of Vienna (2013). His work examines intersections between art, media archaeology, and socio-political contexts. Current research explores contemporary painting's resistance to digital economies and postcolonial theory applications. He teaches at institutions in Fribourg, Zurich, Vienna, and Basel.

His academic journey includes roles as an assistant at the Université de Fribourg (2014) and research positions at the University of Basel's eikones Centre and Schaulager Professorship. Key interests span art theory, media environments, and metaphorology in visual arts.
