Simon Sharpe is a Policy Associate at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP), part of the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment at University College London (UCL). He also serves as Director of Economics for the UN Climate Champions and a Senior Fellow at the World Resources Institute.
His research and policy work focus on climate change economics, international climate negotiations, clean energy transitions, industrial strategy, and climate diplomacy. He has published academic papers and policy reports on these topics.
Previously, Simon was Deputy Director of the UK government’s COP26 Unit, leading international campaigns on energy, transport, land use, science, and innovation. He also held roles in international climate change strategy, clean growth in the UK’s industrial strategy, and diplomatic postings to China and India.
His current projects include the Breakthrough Agenda, aimed at accelerating global economic transitions to combat climate change, and the Economics of Energy Innovation and System Transition project with China, India, and Brazil.
