Simon Nicholls

Simon Nicholls is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in French and Catalan Studies at Sheffield Hallam University's Department of Management, part of the Sheffield Business School. He holds degrees including BA (Hons.), PGCE, PgCLTHE, and MA. His teaching focuses on French language/civilization and pedagogical modules like 'Professional Skills in Teaching.' He leads undergraduate programs in Languages and Cultures and serves as Admissions Tutor since 2018.

Research interests include regionalism, nationalism theories (ethnosymbolism), and Mediterranean societies, with fieldwork in Corsica, the Balearic Islands, and Catalonia. He co-leads Catalan studies at the university and has presented at international conferences. Recognized for student-centered teaching, he received the 2021 Vice Chancellor's Award. He is affiliated with the Culture and Creativity Research Institute and participates in the Mediterranean Studies Association.
