Dr. Simon Mathias Waelli is a Research and Teaching Fellow and Director of the Health Organizations Management (HOM) Research Lab at the Institute of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva. He holds a PhD in sociology and is authorized to direct research in health management. His work focuses on public policy implementation in health organizations and the development of nursing professions. Since 2019, he has coordinated the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Public Health, teaching qualitative methods and work analysis.
The HOM Lab, led by Waelli, focuses on three core areas: (1) management research for healthcare stakeholders, (2) targeted dissemination of scientific knowledge, and (3) facilitating forums for healthcare system transformation. The Lab collaborates with managers, policymakers, and international experts to address systemic challenges like integration, budget constraints, and technological adaptation.
Waelli co-directs the management of healthcare organizations program and oversees the annual HealthCH Symposium and Senior Managers' Seminar. His research agenda aligns with the needs of Swiss healthcare managers, emphasizing empirical studies and literature reviews. A key output is a collective textbook published by Dunod in 2025, distributed to students and faculty in healthcare management programs.
