Simon Goldhill

Simon Goldhill is Professor of Greek Literature and Culture at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow and Director of Studies in Classics at King's College. His work bridges ancient Greek literature, literary theory, and contemporary critical frameworks, establishing him as a leading figure in classical reception studies.

Goldhill's research centers on Greek Tragedy, Greek Culture, Literary Theory, Later Greek Literature, and Reception Studies. He employs interdisciplinary methods to examine cultural constructions of identity, sexuality, and power in antiquity, with particular focus on the afterlife of Greek texts in modern thought. His scholarship consistently interrogates the politics of interpretation across historical and theoretical divides.

Analysis of his 15 most recent publications (2023-2025) reveals deepening engagement with queer theory and religious intersections, especially between classical antiquity and Jewish/Christian traditions.
