Dr. Simon Beggs is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health. He trained in medicine at the University of Edinburgh (MBChB) and completed clinical training in general medicine at Glasgow. His clinical fellowship with the Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Service at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital focused on heart failure and arrhythmias. His research investigates the role of cardiac arrhythmias in heart failure, anticoagulation therapies, and sudden/non-sudden death mechanisms. He has authored/co-authored multiple peer-reviewed articles and a textbook chapter on heart failure pharmacology.
Key research interests include heart failure epidemiology, arrhythmia management, and defibrillator efficacy. His recent work explores anticoagulation strategies in heart failure patients and the impact of non-ischemic cardiomyopathy on sudden cardiac death. He contributed to a 5-year British Heart Foundation grant (2017–2022) investigating arrhythmias and rehospitalization risks in acute heart failure patients.
