Professor Simon Baughen is a Professor of Shipping Law at Swansea University's Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law, within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He previously held a Readership at the University of Bristol Law School. His research focuses on maritime law, trust law, and the environmental and human rights implications of multinational corporations' activities. He is a member of Swansea's Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law (IISTL).
Education: Studied law at the University of Oxford. Practiced maritime law before entering academia.
Research Interests: Shipping law, climate change legal frameworks, corporate accountability, and environmental law. Recent work includes analyses of EU emissions trading schemes, liability in tort for third-party acts, and unmanned vessel regulations.
Teaching: Modules include Carriage of Goods by Sea, Land and Air, International Corporate Law and Governance, and Charterparties: Law and Practice.
Supervision: Advised PhD students on topics like mobile drilling rig contracts and Rotterdam Rules documentation.
Affiliations: Active in IISTL, contributing to global shipping law debates and regulatory challenges.
