Dr. Simon Allison is a Reader in the Department of Physical and Life Sciences at the School of Applied Sciences, University of Huddersfield. He is a member of the Pharmacology and Therapeutics Centre and Associate Member of the Cellular and Molecular Models of Disease Centre.
- Education: B.A. in Biological Natural Sciences (First Class Honors) from University of Cambridge
- PhD in Cancer Biology from University of Glasgow
His research focuses on cancer metabolism and NAD+-dependent enzymology, particularly the exploitation of cancer cell metabolic rewiring and molecular dependencies. He investigates sirtuins and epigenetic alterations in cancer cells, aiming to elucidate mechanisms of action of novel anti-cancer agents.
Recent publications highlight his work on self-assembling cryptate compounds (2024), cannabinoid cytotoxicity (2023), and omega-3 derivatives in prostate cancer (2022). These studies demonstrate his interest in chemical biology approaches to cancer therapy.
He currently serves as External PhD Examiner at University of Manchester and Secretary for the British Society for Cell Biology. His research is funded by Kidscan and the University of Huddersfield.
