Dr. Simon A.J. Pattison is a Full Professor in the Department of Geology at Brandon University since 1998. He holds tenure since 2000 and was promoted to Professor in 2009. His academic journey includes a B.Sc. (1985) from Brandon University, M.Sc. (1987) and Ph.D. (1991) from McMaster University.
Research focuses on Cretaceous sedimentology of western North America, particularly the Book Cliffs region. Specializes in marginal/shallow-marine clastic systems, sequence stratigraphy, and reservoir modeling. Awards include BU Senate Excellence in Teaching (2004) and Research (2009). Industry experience spans roles with Imperial Oil, Shell International, and Shell Nigeria as exploration/production geologist.
Teaches undergraduate courses including Petroleum Geology, Facies-Basin Analysis, and field seminars training over 600 professionals globally. Research funded by NSERC, CFI, ConocoPhillips, and others. Active in reinterpreting classic Book Cliffs stratigraphy to improve subsurface reservoir modeling.
