About
Dr Simin Li is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanics of Biomaterials at Loughborough University's School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering. His research focuses on biomaterials mechanics, biomechanical engineering, and additive manufacturing applications in healthcare. He holds a PhD from Loughborough University (2013) and previously worked at Imperial College London (2013–2014).
Education:
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering (China, 2007)
- MSc from University of Bath (2009)
- PhD in Biomaterials Mechanics (Loughborough, 2013)
Research interests span musculoskeletal tissue modelling, computational biomechanics, and advanced prosthetics design. His work integrates engineering, materials science, and clinical collaboration to address challenges in rehabilitation and defence medicine. Recent projects include 3D-printed prosthetic optimization and fracture mechanics of biological tissues.
Key achievements include £230,500 as Principal Investigator for EPSRC/NIHR grants and leadership in additive manufacturing and defence medicine collaborative training programs. Awards include the 2017 Higher Education Academy Fellowship and multiple best research awards during his studies.
He serves on the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB) and chairs the European Structural Integrity Society's biomedical materials technical committee. His refereeing roles include top journals in biomechanics and medical engineering.
Current projects emphasize prosthetic socket innovation for paediatric patients and mechano-adaptation of tissues under dynamic loading conditions.
