Silvina Ituarte is an Associate Provost and Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at California State University, East Bay (CSUEB). She joined CSUEB in 2003 after serving at Kean University, where she was honored as Professor of the Year in 2001 and held roles including Director of the Criminal Justice major and Assistant Chair of the Public Administration Department. Her expertise spans bias crimes (hate crime), juvenile delinquency, correctional systems, social justice, and research methodology.
Education: She earned her undergraduate degree in Social Ecology and Humanities at the University of California, Irvine, and her doctorate in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University, New Jersey, where she conducted ethnographic research on bias-motivated offenders under Dr. Mercer Sullivan. Her work experience includes roles as a Victim Specialist for California’s Victim Witness Program, screening domestic violence offenders in New York, and serving as a part-time research assistant for the Anti-Violence Project’s Bias Crime Report.
