Silvia Helena Barcellos

Dr. Silvia Helena Barcellos is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Southern California (USC) with a joint appointment at the Dornsife Center for Economic and Social Research (CESR). She is also a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and an International Research Associate at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS). On leave from USC, she currently serves as a Professor of Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

• Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Princeton University, and B.A. and M.A. in Economics from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio, Brazil).

Dr. Barcellos' research focuses on health economics and labor economics, examining intersections with genetics, social determinants, and public policy. Her work explores how education mitigates health disparities, Medicare affects financial strain, and genetic factors influence health outcomes. Recent studies analyze subjective well-being during the pandemic and insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
