Professor Sigrun Skogly is a Visiting Professor at the School of Law, Lancaster University, and holds a Visiting Professorship at University College Buskerud, Norway. Her academic career spans institutions like the University of Oslo, University of Essex (LL.M. in International Human Rights Law, 1988), and her doctoral research on World Bank and IMF obligations. Recent work includes keynote addresses on balancing human rights in societies beyond growth at University of Essex (2024) and analyzing the role of economic and social rights in sustainable development at Ghent University (2023). She has contributed to the Maastricht Principles on Human Rights for Future Generations since 2018.
Professor Skogly has held editorial roles (e.g., Human Rights Law Review) and advisory positions, including for the United Nations and Amnesty International. She supervises PhD topics on the Right to Water, Foreign Direct Investment and Human Rights, Indigenous Peoples’ Rights, and Discrimination in Education, among others.
A pioneer in extraterritorial human rights obligations, she led seminars with the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (2005) and participates in expert networks addressing globalization, poverty, and the SDGs.
