Sigrid Merx

Dr. Sigrid Merx is an Associate Professor at the Department of Media and Culture Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Utrecht University. She serves as Director of Education and teaches in the BA Media and Culture program, MA Contemporary Theatre, Dance and Dramaturgy, and MA Arts and Society. Her academic work focuses on the dramaturgy of contemporary socially engaged theatre and performance practices, particularly in public space contexts.

• Research explores how urban public spaces negotiate digitization, datafication, institutionalization, identity politics, and sustainability through performance
• Co-founded research platforms: [urban interfaces], Creative Urban Methods, and Creative Humanities Academy

She pioneered the Creative Cities minor and is a core member of Platform-Scenography. Her activities include organizing international events like the European Media Art Platform Conference and Prague Quadrennial contributions. Awards include the Prijs Jong Docenttalent 2009 for teaching excellence.
