About
Signe Svallfors is a Research Fellow in the Department of Sociology at Stockholm University, affiliated with the Stockholm University Demography Unit (SUDA). Her work examines how violence, social inequality, and conflict affect health, reproductive rights, and gender-based violence in Latin America. Previously, she held postdoctoral positions at Stanford University and Karolinska Institutet. She earned her PhD in Sociological Demography from Stockholm University in 2021.
Research Focus: Her primary research investigates the intersection of armed conflict and reproductive health, including studies on fertility desires, contraceptive use, and intimate partner violence in Colombia. She also analyzes attitudes toward sexual and reproductive health using global survey data.
Publications: Key works include critiques of fertility rate metrics in gender equality analysis, studies on violence exposure's impact on birth outcomes, and cross-national comparisons of women's life-course transitions in conflict zones. Recent articles emphasize methodological rigor in measuring gender dynamics within conflicts.
Affiliations: Active in international demographic networks, she contributes to the Demographic and Health Surveys initiative and collaborates with institutions like the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research.
