Sibel KAVUNCU

Sibel KAVUNCU is a Professor in the Department of International Relations at Trakya University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, where she has worked since 2017 (as Associate Professor) and 2022 (as Professor). She holds a PhD in International Relations from Istanbul University (2006) and an MA from Trakya University (2001), with her doctoral research focusing on Turkey-US relations during Turgut Özal's premiership.

Kavuncu's research examines 21st-century international systems, with a focus on US foreign policy, nuclear disarmament, NATO strategy, and climate change's geopolitical impacts. Her work analyzes arms control treaties like START, NATO's post-Cold War evolution, and energy policy intersections in international relations.

Recent publications include book chapters on NATO's space policy, environmental security, and Turkey's role in a nuclear-weaponized world, alongside conference papers addressing US-Iran nuclear dynamics and ABD-Rusya relations. She has supervised numerous theses covering topics like UN climate negotiations, NATO cyber security, and US-Middle East aid policies.

Her doctoral and graduate courses include 21st Century World Power Centers, US Foreign Policy, Contemporary Geopolitics, and Global Climate Change Governance. She remains actively engaged in conference presentations and academic collaborations across political science disciplines.
