Siân Derry is a Senior Lecturer in Music and Assistant Director of Postgraduate Studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (Birmingham City University). She leads the MA Musicology and Professional Performance (AdvPgDip) courses. Her research focuses on Beethoven, piano pedagogy, organology, and 18th–19th century performance practices. She holds a BMus Hons and MMus from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and a PhD from the University of Manchester (thesis: ‘Beethoven’s Experimental Figurations and Exercises for Piano’).
She was a postdoctoral researcher (2013) on an AHRC-funded project examining Manchester’s music history, with a focus on Charles Hallé’s work. A founding member of the Manchester Beethoven International Research Symposia (2009), she also belongs to the Conservatoire’s Forum for Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Music. Her contributions span academic discourse and performance-led research, though no specific grants or awards are noted.
