Shumenghui Zhai

Shumenghui Zhai, PhD, MPH is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, Pacific Lutheran University. Her work focuses on culturally tailored interventions in pediatric chronic illness management, sleep health, and public health equity. She holds degrees from the University of Washington (PhD in Nursing Science), University of Pittsburgh (MPH in Community and Behavioral Health Science), and Nanjing Medical University (BSN).

Research interests include sleep deficiency in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, cross-cultural perceptions of dementia among Asian elderly populations, and improving healthcare access for medically underserved Asian American communities. Her interventions often integrate digital health tools and community engagement strategies.

Recent work highlights a sleep-self-management intervention (SLEEPSMART) for pediatric arthritis patients and their families, a systematic review of digital caregiver supports, and culturally adapted HPV vaccination campaigns for Asian American adolescents. She has presented at major conferences including the Western Institute of Nursing and Transcultural Nursing Society.

Notable projects include a patient navigator program improving hepatitis B care outcomes and a supermarket-based intervention promoting healthier eating among Asian communities. Her research emphasizes implementation science and human-centered design principles in health interventions.
