Dr. Shuhua An is a Professor in the Department of Teacher Education at the College of Education, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). She has over 30 years of experience in mathematics and mathematics education in both China and the United States. She currently serves as the Director of the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education and leads the international Classroom Teaching Research for All Students Research Group involving over 30 universities across seven countries.
Research Interests: Her work centers on mathematics teachers' pedagogical content knowledge, comparative studies in math education between the U.S. and Asian countries, classroom teaching research, assessment of student mathematical thinking, and the integration of technology in instruction. She is deeply committed to improving math education through evidence-based models such as MSA (Model, Strategy, Application) and MSAR (with Reasoning).
The recent publications reflect a strong focus on international collaboration, urban and diverse classrooms, teacher development, and innovative pedagogical models. Her research bridges theory and practice, emphasizing practical strategies for enhancing both student learning and teacher expertise.

She has established and leads several research teams and initiatives, including the Classroom Teaching Research for All Students (CTRAS) group and the East Meets West international collaboration. These teams focus on cross-cultural lesson studies, teacher professional development, and improving mathematics instruction for diverse learners.
