Shuhrat BARATOV is a Lecturer at the Canberra School of Politics, Economics and Society, University of Canberra. His research focuses on Central Asian geopolitics, Eurasian integration dynamics, and identity politics. He holds a PhD from the Australian National University (2017), a Master's from the University of Tsukuba (2010), and a Bachelor's from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (2007).
His research interests include Russian World influence, security mechanisms in Central Asia, and the digital transformation of governance systems. Recent works analyze the Collective Security Treaty Organization's response to Afghan instability, India-Central Asia connectivity projects, and Uzbekistan's super-presidential political structures.
BARATOV has presented invited talks on 'The Great Game Reignited?' (2021) and 'Russia’s influence in Central Asia' (2019). His work frequently intersects post-Soviet regionalism, authoritarian governance models, and transnational security challenges. Despite no listed awards, his contributions to understanding Central Asian political dynamics are widely recognized in academic circles.
He currently supervises PhD candidates exploring digital governance in authoritarian regimes and maintains active research collaborations on Eurasian security issues. BARATOV's interdisciplinary approach bridges political theory with contemporary technological and geopolitical realities.
