About
Shreyas Sreenath is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Bowdoin University. His academic work bridges anthropology, history, and environmental humanities, focusing on caste, disposability, and ecological futures in postcolonial India.
- Education: PhD, MA, BA from Emory University
His research explores how caste structures shape urban waste systems and agrarian landscapes in Karnataka. Fieldwork spans Bangalore’s sanitation networks and Shimoga’s moral ecologies, interrogating how forgotten histories and artifacts challenge modern ecological contradictions.
Recent publications include ethnographies on Dalit labor in waste management and anti-caste fabulations in environmental contexts. He advocates for vernacular 'survival texts' rooted in language, ecology, and craft.
Teaching at Bowdoin emphasizes ethnography’s potential to reconstruct everyday life. Office located at Mills Hall, contact: ssreenat@bowdoin.edu.
