Michigan State UniversityAbout
Dr. Shreesh Sammi is an Assistant Professor of Translational Neuroscience at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, based at the Grand Rapids Research Center. He holds a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (India) and completed postdoctoral training in Neurotoxicity at Purdue University with Dr. Jason R. Cannon. His research focuses on neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s, ALS, Alzheimer’s), environmental neurotoxicants like PFAS, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Technical expertise includes C. elegans models, neurobehavioral assays, and cell culture systems.
Education:
- B.S. in Biotechnology, Chemistry, and Zoology – Kurukshetra University (2006)
- M.S. in Biotechnology – H.N.B. Garhwal University (2008)
- PhD in Life Sciences – Jawaharlal Nehru University (2015)
Research Interests: Dr. Sammi investigates mechanisms of PFAS-induced neurotoxicity, Optineurin’s role in neurodegenerative diseases, and therapeutic potential of synthetic/natural compounds. His work emphasizes mitochondrial pathways in neurotoxicant exposure and translational models for drug discovery.
Labs/Teams: Sammi Lab at Michigan State University focuses on PFAS neurotoxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction, and neurodegenerative mechanisms.
